Although best know internationallly by our capital city, Barcelona, Catalonia has a lot to offer to movie lovers. Beginning in the Costa Brava, where you can discover some of the hidden corners where Ava Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor or Joseph L. Mankiewicz stayed and filmed in the 50s, Catalonia Movie Walks offers a series of routes that take you from the Pyrenees to the southern tip of Catalonia, the Ebre Delta Natural Park.
A joint venture of the Catalan Tourist Board and tourism and cinema expert Eugeni Osacar, the book identifies over 175 films that benefited from the variety of landscapes that Catalonia has to offer. In fact, the number of international shoots taking place in the territory increased considerably during the first years of the 21st century.
Catalonia Movie Walks explores the film sets of renowned titles such as Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Sahara, or, more recently, The Gunman, an action thriller starred by Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Idris Elba and shot in Barcelona and other Catalan towns.
It also includes 25 suggested routes, journeys through the filmmakers’ creations that enable the user to admire a rich and varied scenery, an architecture built up over one thousand years of history and the star presence of Barcelona, a city that is famous all over the world.
